Lexington Spring antique show this weekend
LEXINGTON—Shoppers from all over Texas know that Central Texas is the place to go in the spring for antiques. Now Lexington wants to add its own flavor to the array of festivals that have spread from Round Top and Warrenton to many places across the state.
The first Lexington Spring Antique Show and Sale is set to begin Friday and run through Sunday, March 15-17 in the Lexington Park Building on Hwy. 77.
The sale is free to the public and will be open 10 to 7 Friday and Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.
“Our show is two weeks before the big festivals in Round Top and we like to think of it as the unofficial kick-off to the season,” said Cindy Terrell, one of the people sponsoring the Lexington event.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for people to get a sneak peak at what will be at the bigger shows, and for dealers to pick up some great deals on their way to their Round Top venue.
Organizers hope this to be the first of a twice-annual event. Another show is planned for September 2013.
Terrell said that shoppers often head to Round Top before those festivals actually begin, hoping to see offerings before they get picked over, and larger dealers often stop in small towns en route, searching for that last, perfect addition to their inventory.
“Lexington is perfectly located to capitalize on that traffic,” she said.
“Many of our vendors are Round Top and Warrenton veterans, vendors selling fine antique furniture as well as vendors who specialize in shabby chic decor,” said Terrell.
“We have one vendor who trades in Civil War-era black powder weapons and knives, another who specializes in Civil War-era paper, documents, bonds, etc.”
She said other vendors include one who trades in vintage European hats, and another who trades in vintage jewelry. She expects an antique tractor club to be there showcasing their antique tractors during the sale.
Concessions will be available on-site and Sunday will feature an after-church-style barbecue with all the trimmings. For more information about the Lexington Spring Antique Show and Sale, contact Terrell at 979-540-7026.
