FAMILIAR SIGHT—



A South Milam County volunteer fire department at a fire was a common sight during the past week with volunteers answering eight calls. The Rockdale VFD answered six, four of them to grass fires including this one at 12:31 p.m. Thursday on County Road 317 near the FM 487 intersection. (See other grass fire calls on page 1A.) Rockdale volunteers also responded to a fire that claimed a vacant trailer house at 6:15 p.m. March 13 at 7874 County Road 342 and a smoldering tree at 711 North Main at 3:31 p.m. March 12. The Thorndale VFD was called to a stovetop fire at 205 West Norris at 7:26 p.m. Friday and a grass fire on FM 1331at 7:46 p.m. Friday.
