MDD trying to recruit business for Rockdale

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) learned Monday that a business has expressed interest in locating in Rockdale.

“We’re not ready to make any announcements yet,” MDD executive director Tom Manskey said. “But we’ve been in contact with a business and have been trying to show them what our town has.”

Manskey said the business would employ about a dozen persons if it locates to Rockdale.

“We’ve also been trying to help them find a building here,” Manskey said.

WEBSITE—Meeting in regular session at City Hall, the MDD also heard a report on the district’s new website by Manskey.

“We’re hoping we can unveil it later this month,” he said.

The site is envisioned to present information about the MDD, the city and economic development opportunities for those businesses and industries who research Rockdale online.

NO ACTION—The MDD again took no action on possible purchase of land at the Coffield Industrial Park north of the city limits on FM 487.

For several months, beginning last August, MDD directors have been mulling possible uses for the property.

Directors had been considering purchasing about 170 acres but that idea has been held up over questions of land ownership.

Next meeting of the MDD board of directors will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, at City Hall.
