Messer doubles up after making All-State in hoops
Milano’s Messer was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State team after being named first-team All-State in football this past season.

Messer led the Eagles to a 27-6 record and the regional finals for the second straight season where they again fell to neighbor Mumford.
The 6-foot-4 Messer—who has signed to play football at West Texas A&M—averaged 17.9 points per game, 13 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.8 blocks.
Messer’s teammate Toby Sanders was named to the all-regional team.
Milano resident and Mumford star Aubrie King was chosen the Class A player of the year after leading the Mustangs to a 39-1 record and into the state championship game where they lost to Triple A Academy.
The 6-foot-6 King nearly averaged a triple- double in 2013, putting up 15.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists from his point guard position.
King is a three-time All-State selection and went over the 2,000-point career mark in the state tournament.
Teammate LaKendrick Hyson was also named to the first-team.
King and Hyson were named co-MVP’s of the league, while Messer was tabbed as the defensive player of the year.
Sanders, along with Jacob Willingham, David Jentsch and Jordan Millar were named firstteam all-district.
Efrain Flores and Jonathon Reyes were named homnorable mention.
Mumford’s Chris Sodek was named the district coach of the year.
