Holy Week luncheons lead to Easter Sunrise service

Reporter/Mike Brown The final two Community Holy Week luncheon services will be held during the noon hour Thursday and Friday at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, sponsored by the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance.

Holy Week, of course, leads to Easter and community’s annual Sunrise Service is set for 7 a.m. Sunday at the Tiger Field stadium.

HOLY WEEK—Each meeting features sandwiches and finger foods provided by participating local churches, plus music, scripture and a short Holy Week message.

The luncheon sessions begin about 12:05 p.m. and will conclude around 1 p.m. to enable business people to return to work.

Speakers—Thursday, March 28, Rev. Russ Willis, Meadowbrook Baptist Church; Friday, March 29, Lance Walch, Forest Grove Christian Church.

Music—Thursday, Meadowbrook Baptist Church; Friday, Forest Grove Christian Church.

Food suppliers—Thursday, Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Peace Lutheran Church; Friday, Forest Grove Christian Church and Rockdale Christian Church.

SUNRISE SERVICE—Rockdale’s annual community-wide Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, March 31, at the high school football stadium.

Music will be provided by Holy Peculiar, a Rockdale band.

Preaching will be Rev. David Pussman, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.

Others participating will be Rev. Russ Willis, Meadowbrook Baptist; Rev. Rita Sims, St. John’s Methodist; Rev. Jack Chelf, First Baptist; and Rev. Pam Graham, St. Thomas Episcopal.

“Attendees are advised to bring a towel to wipe off any dew on the seats, or to bring a stadium seat,” according to Rev. Sims, president of the Ministerial Alliance which coordinates the Holy Week activities.

In case of inclement weather Easter morning, the sunrise service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Hillcrest.
