Eleven sentenced in 20th District Court
CAMERON—Eleven persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who listed case dispositions as follows:
• Shannonn Edward Varner, 30, Cameron, pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two-year state jail term, $1,500 fine, $213.30 restitution. Full Story

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the junior-high commons.

The Gause Volunteer Fire Department was summoned to a six-acre grass fire on CR 358 at 8:55 p.m. March 20.
Firefighters discovered the blaze was a controlled, then advised the blaze was too large and volunteers proceeded to extinguish the fire

Trucker hurt in Friday accident
A 61-year- old Laredo truck driver was injured Friday morning when his 18-wheeler left US 79 near Gause and overturned.
Apolinar Perez was treated at Richards Memorial Hospital, following the 6:51 p.m. accident, according to State Trooper J C. Brooks. Full Story
Additional indictment handed down in unborn child’s death
Thirty-three persons listed from Thursday’s grand jury session
CAMERON—A 56-year- old Rockdale man drew an additional indictment Thursday in connection with the Oct. 20, 2012 death of an unborn child in a Jeep-pedestrian collision.
Mark Allen Talley was indicted for manslaughter, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.
That’s in addition to the January indictments for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. Full Story

Fair Park hosting Nature Festival
Rockdale’s Fair Park will again host the annual Nature Festival, sponsored by the El Camino Real chapter of Texas Master Naturalists.
Dates are April 12 and 13.

MCRTA reps attend ‘Rally Day’ at capitol
Six members of the Milam County Retired Teachers Association ( MCRTA) joined over 1,000 other retired teachers and school personnel at the Capitol in Austin on March 20. MCRTA members joined a delegation from TRTA District 6 (Brazos, Walker, Grimes, Robertson, Prairie View, Austin and Madison Retired Teachers units) on a chartered bus to the Capitol. Full Story

The Tanglewood Volunteer Fire Department recently conducted a fish fry fund raiser in the fire station, selling 171 plates. The event also included donated door prizes and a silent auction. Full Story

The band Fireproof provided live music Saturday at the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Tanglewood Christian Camp. Between 25 and 30 children found 300 Easter Eggs. Full Story

Mi lano Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary has set the dates for its spring garage sale. It will be April 4-6 at the Milano Civic Center. The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 4-5 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6. Full Story

Gospel jamboree set for April 7 in Giddings
