Building permits total over half million dollars for March

City building permits issued for the month of March totaled $519,678, according to Rockdale city hall officials.

Permits are way up for the month due in part to two new business buildings going up.

Rockdale Iron and Metal will construct a new warehouse at 1263 W. US 79. The $237,125 structure will be built by Reed Construction.

Little River Health Care has hired Mod Space to construct a new administration building at Richards Memorial Hospital, 1700 Brazos. The new building is estimated to cost $106,000.

Permits issued for February totaled just $27,250.

Permit totals for the fiscal year, which started in October, now sit at $1,661,548. Included in that total is the new $690,000 McDonald’s building that is being constructed on US 79. The old restaurant was torn down and a new restaurant is being built at that same site.

The current fiscal year total is just $ 443,221 less than the 2012 fiscal year total of $2,104,769. It is well above the 2011 fiscal year total of $956,168.

Permits are issued at City Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.
