I nvite your friends to join you for an outing to Brenham and Chappell Hill on Friday, April 26. The chartered bus will pick you up in Cameron or Rockdale. The day will start with a tour of Blue Bell Creamery. After the Blue Bell tour, the bus will drop us off in downtown Brenham where we will have about three hours to eat and consumer shop.

The second part of the tour will be in Chappell Hill, where we will visit a Lavender Farm and learn about lavender growing, walk through the lavender fields and shop in their on-site gift shop. We will also have time in downtown Chappell Hill to consumer shop and snack at the bakery and deli before heading back to Milam County. We are taking one charter bus, so when it is full that’s all the room.

The day will offer you new sites, a taste of ice cream, information on lavender and a lot of fun with friends. Everyone is invited to sign-up for the tour. The tour is open to anyone, so gather up your friends and plan for a fun and enjoyable day.

The Washington County area is known for it’s wild flowers, so we may still see some blooming on the roadsides. The cost of the tour is $42. We will have a pickup in Cameron and Rockdale.

To sign-up for the tour, contact the Milam County Extension Office, 100 E. 1st Street, Cameron TX 76520, 254-697-7045 or email ce-walker@tamu.edu. The registration information is also posted under events on the website http:// milam.agrilife.org/. The Milam County Extension Education Association sponsors the tour.

FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATION CLASS—Last call to commercial food handlers needing a certification class. The class and testing for 2013 is set for April 15. The class will be conducted in one day at the Lee County Precinct 3 Building, 8871 US 77 in Lexington at a cost of $115. The registration fee covers the course materials, testing and instruction. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Milam and Lee counties are conducting the training.

Registration materials are available at both Extension offices as well as on the Milam County website, http://milam.agrilife.org/ under events. The cost of the training and testing is $115 per person. Commercial food handlers are required to pass a certified professional food manager examination to operate their business.
