Cameo building allowed study
New look okayed at 1880s structure
An 1880s-era downtown building, which was ordered demolished by the city’s Building Standards Commission last month, has gotten at least a temporary reprieve from the city council.
The council voted unanimously Monday to hear additional evidence from a structural engineer on effects of demolishing the Cameo Insurance building on adjacent structures. Full Story
Thursday was a big night for Debra Jackson, immediate past chair of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, after presiding over Chamber business during a hectic 2012. Jackson was named the Chamber’s citizen of the year at the banquet and received the night’s only standing ovation from her peers. Full Story
Superintendent search firm hired by trustees
Rockdale ISD trustees, meeting Tuesday in special session, hired Dr. Bob E. Griggs & Associates of Fort Worth to conduct a search for the successor to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.
Dr. Wright has submitted his resignation, effective June 30.
Trustees emerged from an executive session in the Central Administration Building to hire the Griggs firm on a unanimous 7-0 vote. Full Story
MARC Run set Saturday at The Ranch
The 12th annual MARC Run is set for Saturday at The Ranch, to benefit the Milam Adult Resource Center (MARC).
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11 a.m. The ride fee is $20 for riders and $25 with a passenger. Fee includes a barbecue meal with all the trimmings after the ride for all participants. Full Story
