Superintendent search firm hired by trustees

Rockdale ISD trustees, meeting Tuesday in special session, hired Dr. Bob E. Griggs & Associates of Fort Worth to conduct a search for the successor to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.

Dr. Wright has submitted his resignation, effective June 30.

Trustees emerged from an executive session in the Central Administration Building to hire the Griggs firm on a unanimous 7-0 vote.

Lee Jenkins, board president, said trustees asked for proposals from five search firms and interviewed two, Griggs and Arrow Educational Services of Mabank.

Griggs & Associates has conducted over 250 searches since 1986. Dr. Griggs is a former educator and also a former state representative.

Jenkins said even though the board is working against the June 30 deadline, it has expressed a desire “not to rush into anything and to do this (search) right.”

“The firm will actually compile a nice brochure about Rockdale and the school district and send it to every superintendent in the state,” Jenkins said.

Gr iggs & Associates wi l l recruit, solicit resumes, hold community meetings and talk to members of the community and school personnel.

“We will then pare down the candidates to some number, whether it’s six or nine, 10 or 12, whatever, and begin the interview process,” he said.

“If everything goes on schedule we ought to be in the process of starting interviews around the middle of May and be able to name the lone finalist—the superintendent designate” toward the end of June,” he said.
