Central Texas Baylor scholarship banquet set April 25 in Temple


McCaw McCaw TEMPLE—The annual Central Texas Baylor scholarship banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple. This event raises money for the Central Texas Endowed Scholarship that gives scholarships each year to students from this area who attend Baylor University.

The speaker will be Ian McCaw, Director of Athletics for Baylor University. Under his leadership the athletic area has achieved extraordinary academic, athletic and administrative success. He came from the University of Massachusetts in 2003, as Baylor’s 12 Director of Athletics.

McCaw was selected one of five finalists for the 2012 Sports Business Journal Athletic Director of the Year.

Student athletes have thrived in the classroom as Baylor led the Big 12 in graduation success rate for three consecutive years and recorded their highest cumulative grade point average on record during 2011-12 at 3.2.

Baylor Athletics, under McCaw, has raised $242.2 million towards capital projects; $50.3 million in annual contributions in the Bear Foundation and a total of $10.4 million in endowment gifts for a total of $302.9 million.

McCaw also served at Northeastern University, Tulane. He earned his master’s degree in sport management from Massachusetts and bachelor’s degree from Laurentian University in Ontario. He is a deacon at First Baptist in Woodway. He and his wife, Heather have four children.

Each year, the Alumnus of the Year is awarded to an outstanding Baylor graduate and supporter. This year’s honoree is Billy Ray Hall, attorney at Prater & Ridley Law Firm, alternate Municipal Judge for the city of Harker Heights, Business Law professor at Central Texas College, Constitutional Law Professor at Texas A&M Central Texas.

Tickets are $35 per person, with $15 of each going to the Central Texas Endowed Scholarship. Deadline for registration is April 20.
