Managing just two hits that produced no runs, the Lady Tigers were upset by Taylor Tuesday night 2- 0 at the Softball Complex.

The loss, coupled with Caldwell’s 14-1 victory over Navasota, pushes Rockdale into second place in District 18-3A at 14-5 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Caldwell stands 22-7 and 6-1 with its only loss coming at the hands of Taylor (4-14, 3-4), which kept its playoff hopes alive with the win Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers defeated Taylor 5-2 in the first round at Taylor.

Tuesday, the Lady Ducks posted all the runs the game would see in the sixth inning after an infield single, a throwing error and a wild pitch made it 2-0.

Madisonville

Maci Wages picked the perfect time for her first career home run, cranking a solo shot over the fence to lead the Lady Tigers to a 7-6 victory over Madisonville on the road.

With the victory, Montelongo became the Lady Tigers’ all-time winningest pitcher with her 44th win, surpassing Sammie Meyer, who posted a 43-7 mark from 2004-07.

“I am so proud of Kayleigh,” said Rockdale Coach Amanda Keen. “She is a huge part of this program and dedicated athlete. It takes a lot of time outside of regular practice to get as good as she is.”

Sammie Meyer Sammie Meyer With 12 strikeouts Tuesday against Taylor, Montelongo also becomes the school’s strikeout leader with 360 in her career, ahead of Meyers’ 348.

“She has spent many summers playing select ball, sacrificed time with friends but she loves the game and she will do what it takes to get better,” Keen said. “As a coach you may not get many pitchers like her in a career but when you do it is amazing. I love watching her pitch and the way she can move the ball. Love this kid.”

Wages home run came in the top of the sixth with two outs and a full count on her.

The Lady TIgers banged out 17 hits, led by Montelongo and Morgan Fischer with three hits apiece.

Montelongo and Lisa Vest brought home two RBI apiece, while Mireles clubbed a pair of doubles.
