140-MPH bike chase originates in Milam
22-year-old, public unhurt in pursuit
Milam County law officers participated in what was probably the fastest vehicle chase in county history Friday afternoon with speeds clocked at over 125 miles per hour.
Before the 22-year-old suspect was apprehended two count ies away, speeds of over 140 miles per hour were recorded.
And it involved a motorcycle, not a car. Full Story
Fou r-wheeler wreck claims woman’s life
A 43-year-old Killeen woman became the third Milam County fatality from a vehicle accident in 2013 Sunday when she was thrown from a four-wheeler.
Chief Deputy Chris White said Denise Bentz was pronounced dead at the scene, the 1000 block US 190/Texas 36 west of Cameron, by Justice of the Peace Andy Isaacs. Full Story

14th Dewberry Jam Run set for Saturday
The 14th annual Dewberry Jam 5K Run-Walk, and 1K children’s run is set for Saturday, beginning and ending at Veterans Memorial Park, Brazos at Mistletoe.
Kids run begins at 8 a.m. with the 5K event at 8:30.
Prizes are $200 for the top 5K male and female finisher, $100 for second and $50 for third. Full Story
VFD fund raiser ahead Saturday
The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual major fund-raiser is set for Saturday at the KC Hall.
Mike Korenek, spokesman, said doors open at 5 p.m. with a ribeye steak meal, catered by Knights of Columbus Council 7014, at 6 p.m.
“Scooter Dubec and Sterling Country will play for the dance,” Korenek said.
Master of ceremonies will be John Fisher. Full Story
