Same quintet wants to give tournament another try

The quintet of Eagles placed third in the Class A Region IV meet held Monday and Tuesday at Brenham Country Club, shooting a combined 692.

Weimar’s A team took top honors with a score of 627, while Weimar’s B squad shoot a 683 to finish second.

The Class A state golf tournament will be played May 2-3 at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Milano’s same five athletes, Mik Mader, Toby Sanders, Jacob Willingham, Derek Walton and Tyde Taylor, reached the state meet last year and finished tied for fourth, just out of the medals.

Mader, a junior, led the Eagles at this year’s regional contest, scoring 78 on the first day of play, followed by an 84 for a two-day total of 162.

Sanders, a senior, shot a total 168, with identical 84 scores Monday and Tuesday.

Fellow senior Jacob Willingham (92- 89) and sophomore Derek Walton (91-90) both shot totals of 181. Taylor, also a sophomore, shot a 227 (122- 105).

Weimar A was first at (316- 311) 627, while Weimar B was second at (338-345) 683, followed by Milano with a (345- 347) 692.
