All in 20-hour period for Rockdale firefighters Friday-Saturday
A 19-year-old Austin man was killed when his small SUV collided with a charter bus Friday on US 79 between Rockdale and Milano.
The crash began a hectic 20-hour period for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department, which also answered two house fire alarms in Rockdale, with numerous firefighters leaving the scene of initial calls to do so. Full Story
Mayor’s vote breaks water tower bid tie
Cameo building sent back to board
Saying “we need to get moving on this,” Mayor Larry Jones cast the tie-breaking vote Monday to approve a bid to start a new half-million-gallon water tower project off Allday Street in northwest Rockdale.

County’s jobless rate down for March
Unemployment numbers decrease around area
AUSTIN—Milam County’s unemployment rate dropped six-tenths of a point for the month, with its seasonally adjusted jobless rate at 7.4 percent for March, according to numbers released by the Texas Workforce (TWC) on Friday.
