Sumuel Park restrooms topic for city park board

The City of Rockdale’s Parks Board took up the subject of permanent restrooms and water fountains for Sumuel Park on Thursday.

Board members decided to pursue permanent restrooms and fountains but to also seek temporary facilities in the interim.

The board noted that even temporary facilities must have approval under the Americans With Disabilities (ADA) act.

Board members decided to work toward a goal of having some temporary facilities ADA approved and on-site by June 1.

Also during Thursdays meeting, the board introduced Public Works Director Scooter Lindholm.

Milano to meet with AD director Thursday

MILANO—The City of Milano will hold two sessions on Thursday in the Milano Civic Center, according to City Secretary Carolyn Vinton.

At 6 p.m. the city council will meet in a called session. Agenda items will include discussion, and possible action, on a court clerk and adding reserve officers.

At 6:30 p.m. the city council will meet in workshop session with Pat Moraw, Milam Appraisal District (AD) chief appraiser.

“She will talk about how the appraisal district conducts business,” Vinton said.

Emancipet returning to Rockdale on May 2

Emancipet, a low- cost dog and cat spay and neuter service, will return to Rockdale May 2 at S&S Auto.

“The services will be offered at a discount to promote pet wellness and animal control,” Adam Gardner, Emancipet spokesperson, said.

May 30 deadline for RISD pupil transfers

Parents of students transferring into the Rockdale ISD from other districts are reminded that May 30 is the deadline to apply for student transfers in the 2013- 14 term, according to Dr. Howell Wright, superintendent.

There is no transfer fee, he said.

Transfer forms may be completed by contacting Donna Melcher at the superintendent’s office, 520 West Davilla, during regular office hours Monday through Friday.

Rockdale ISD slates Thursday session

Rockdale Independent School District ( RISD) trustees will meet in a called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Central Administration Building, according to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.

Agenda items include appointment of a board member to the Milam Appraisal District Budget Committee and the salary study and compensation plan presented by a Texas Association of School Boards representative.

Mayfest ahead May 5th inside, outside KC Hall

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will host its 26th annual Mayfest, traditionally one of the largest events in Rockdale, on Thursday, May 5 at the KC Hall.

Activities for both youth and adults begin at 12:30 p.m. with a live auction starting at 1.

Barbecue brisket and sausage plates, with all the trimmings, dessert included, will be sold for $8 per plate, beginning at 11 a.m.

Activities also include a silent auction, fund-raisers, a cake walk, plant walk, craf ts and country store, homemade kolaches, baked gods, religious merchandise, a book sale, antique cars and motorcycles, a cow train, bounce house, clown, pony rides, face painting and much more.
