All in 20-hour period for Rockdale firefighters Friday-Saturday
A 19-year-old Austin man was killed when his small SUV collided with a charter bus Friday on US 79 between Rockdale and Milano.
The crash began a hectic 20-hour period for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department, which also answered two house fire alarms in Rockdale, with numerous firefighters leaving the scene of initial calls to do so. Full Story
Mayor’s vote breaks water tower bid tie
Cameo building sent back to board
Saying “we need to get moving on this,” Mayor Larry Jones cast the tie-breaking vote Monday to approve a bid to start a new half-million-gallon water tower project off Allday Street in northwest Rockdale.

Area rallies support for West residents
Rockdale has links to tragic explosion
Rockdale residents rallied with their hearts, prayers and effort to aid the stricken town of West during the past week as Central Texas reels from the devastating fertilizer plant explosion.

Blood drive ahead Monday at Milano HS
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12-noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Milano High School.

Newsstand price will rise to $1 next week
The single-copy price for The Rockdale Reporter will rise from 75 cents to $1 with the May 2 issue.
Prices at newsstand and retail stores will be $1 in order to cover rising postage and production costs.
Subscription prices will be $30 in Milam County, $34 throughout the rest of Texas and will remain at $37 in the rest of the U.S. Full Story
Reporter wins six first places in STPA contest
ROUND ROCK—The Rockdale Reporter continued its high standard of journalism excellence by earning a division-high six first place awards at the 87th South Texas Press Association Better Newspaper contest and convention. Full Story
About 250 runners and walkers signed up for the 14th annual Dewberry 5K and 1K Kids runs and most of them participated Saturday. The annual event, sponsored by Alpha Tau Delta sorority, raised about $5,000 for local parks and unreeled under clear skies and perfect temperatures. Photos, results, page 6C. Full Story
