Rockdale High School’s Big Blue Band won the Sweepstakes Award, highest honor bestowed by the University Interscholastic League, after earning Division I (Superior) ratings in concert and sight-reading contests last Tuesday at Caldwell High School. Last fall, the Big Blue Band also earned a Division I rating in the UIL Marching Contest. Full Story
Fifteen sentenced in 20th District Court
CAMERON —Fifteen persons drew sentences last week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who listed case dispositions as follows:
Sederrick Ezell Alcorn, 28, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, enhanced, three years deferred adjudication probation, $1,500 fine, $140 in restitution to the DPS. Full Story
Traffic stop ends in ID theft charge against Cameron man
A traffic stop in Rockdale last week, that included a brief foot chase, ended with a variety of charges against a 23-year- old Cameron man.
Jonathan Mario Lara remains in the county jail on bond totaling $113,000 after the arrest by Ofc. Adam Assaker. Full Story

Deputies respond to accidents
Milam County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to six accidents in the county during the past week.
That included Friday’s fatality crash between Rockdale and Milano which claimed the life of a 19-year-old Austin man (See page 1A).

Todd takes top two prizes in RVFD annual fund raiser
Maybe Rockdale businessman Gordon Todd should have bought a lottery ticket on Saturday.
It was definitely his lucky day.
Todd not only won the top prize in the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raiser at the KC Hall, he also took the second prize.
That’s a total of $ 13,500, $11,000 for first and $2,500 for second. Full Story

Cooper, Hurt win top athletic banquet award
The Gause ISD Booster Club sponsored the annual sports banquet last Thursday evening in the school gym and it was very nice. Participants from the various sports were recognized for their accomplishments. There was a catered dinner and it was very good food. Recipients of the Bill Hairrell Award were eighth graders Cameron Cooper and Presley Hurt. Full Story
