Not really, Sanford Street in east Rockdale wasn’t being scraped away last week by city crews. It was all part of upgraded drainage work. City Manager Kelvin Knauf said the street was re-shaped to allow water easier access to flow along each side of the street. Water will then flow into drainage ditches on US 79 (Cameron Avenue) which intersects the street to the south. Full Story
Mayfest slated for KC Hall this Sunday
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will host its 26th annual Mayfest, traditionally one of the largest events in Rockdale, on Sunday, at the KC Hall.
Activities for both youth and adults begin at 12:30 p.m. with a live auction starting at 1.
Barbecue brisket and sausage plates, with all the trimmings, dessert included, will be sold for $8 per plate, beginning at 11 a.m. Full Story

A 16-year-old male juvenile, the suspect in a wild eight-hour overnight Monday crime spree that resulted in at least one stolen car, thefts from numerous vehicles, an assault on two police officers and both foot and vehicle chases, was arrested about 9 a.m. Tuesday. Full Story

Early voting for the May 11 city election, which features a three-person contest for mayor and two council elections, is off to a brisk start.

Candidates’ night Monday at junior-high
Chamber hosting event
Rockdale residents will get a chance to hear from candidates in the May 11 city elections in a “Meet the Candidates” night Monday in the junior-high commons, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
“We will start out with a meet and greet session from 6 to 6:30 p. m.,” Mike Walko, Chamber chairman said. Full Story
SOME ASSEMBLY RETIRED—
Lots of cargo comes down US 79 in Rockdale but this one Friday was unique. Its the boiler from Hill Country Flyer steam engine 786, making its way from Alabama to Cedar Park as part of a 13-year-long, $2-million restoration effort that will get the 97-year old engine back in service. Waiting for the engine at the Cedar Park yard was Bert Dockall, Rockdale train buff and Flyer volunteer. Full Story
