Trustees talk salary strategy after hearing report
Rockdale ISD trustees are looking at strategies dealing with employees’ salaries after a special session Thursday in the Central Administration Building.
Amy Campbell of the Texas Association of School Board presented results of a survey of 11 similarly-sized school districts, including Rockdale, showing Rockdale ISD trailing in compensation.
She recommended changes in strategic compensation for teachers.
Johnson said the evaluation of how teachers are performing is evolving away from the traditional “step” system and toward a system based on the results being obtained by each teacher.
Trustees cited a policy of giving one-tine pay raises over the past three years, based on a variety of factors which combined to produce uncertainty in the district’s fund balance.
Trustees termed the approach “cautious.”
Campbell was asked to prepare a “phase-in” plan for presentation to the district.
