Nine draw sentences in 20th District Court
CAMERON—Nine persons drew sentences during the past week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who listed case dispositions as follows:
• Svjetlana Gaspar, 37, Austin, pleaded guilty to a lesser included Class A misdemeanor offense, possession of marijuana, two years deferred adjudication probation, $1,500 fine, $140 in restitution to DPS. Full Story

Optics, cable lines downed Tuesday
A “wide load” traveling westward down US 79 through Rockdale knocked fiber optics and cable lines into the road just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Police got a number of calls about a “downed power line” but that turned out not to be the case, according to police
Police listed the truck driver as Wallace Hayes of Maine. The situation briefly slowed traffic. Full Story
Fugitive from 2012 sex assault arrested Friday
A 38-year-old Rockdale man, wanted by police for nearly a year in connection with a sexual assault case, was arrested Friday at a Bowser Street residence. Full Story
Scammers busy in Milam during past week
Two scam attempts and an identification theft were reported during the past week, according to the Milam County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were advised of a telephone scam at 7:30 p.m. Monday on County Road 329 in the Milano area. Full Story
It went down in the books as a “four-vehicle” crash but only minor injuries were reported when a motor home pulling an SUV was in collision with an 18-wheeler in front of O’Rielly’s Auto parts in the 1000 block of West Cameron (US 79) at 2:02 p.m. Monday. Full Story
DPS called to motorcycle accident
The Department of Public Safety was called out to a one vehicle accident in South Milam County during the past week.
That came at 7:37 p.m. Saturday and involved a motorcycle accident on FM 486 north of Thorndale.
Trooper Jason Adams listed the cyclist as Douglas Weise, 54, of Taylor, operating a 2008 Harley Davidson. Full Story

County road bond issue ‘on hold’ after discussion
Commissioners unsure of timing, support from public
A possible bond election to raise funds for improvements to county roads, and help Milam County deal with expenses from upcoming capital murder trials, is on hold after commissioners discussed the issue in a special session last Tuesday. Full Story
