Nystrom brings back the golden age of dames

regg Nystrom is a paper doll artist living in Houston, formerly of Rockdale. He recently had his first paper dolls book published by Dover Publications, Golden Age of Hollywood Paper Dolls with Glitter! and it is on shelves now. Gregg lived in Rockdale about seven years with his parents Duane and Helen Nystrom, brother Erik and sister Nancy. Gregg is also on Facebook and has a website www.greggspaperdolls.com. What years did you live in Rockdale?

We were in Rockdale from 1968 to 1975. Dad was the Personnel and Administrative Manager at Alcoa.

Where did you move after leaving Rockdale?

After leaving Rockdale, we moved to Palestine and were there from 1975-1979.

So you didn’t graduate from Rockdale?

We moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. for my senior year of high school, (1980) and I graduated from North Allegheny Senior High.

What is your fondest memory of Rockdale?

There are so many fond memories of growing up in Rockdale. Honestly, I think it was a really great place to raise a family then. Having lived in other places after leaving, I am still friends with a number of people from Rockdale, not so with Palestine or Pittsburgh.

Good memories would include going swimming at the public pool and the Country Club, exploring the dead end woods, and riding bikes all over the town, with Ebony & Puppie (Lee Thomason’s dog) with me!

When is the last time you were in The Rock?

I was last in Rockdale in 2000, when the class of 1980, (which I would have graduated
