Kid Fish event returns to Dewberry Festival

In conjunction with the Dewberry Festival on Saturday, May 18 sponsored by the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, the Kid Fish will be hosted by Texas State Game Warden, Charles Mayer, and the Texas Game Warden Association.

This year’s Kid Fish will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Wilson-Ledbetter Park in Cameron. Many local and area Game Wardens will be on hand, as well as the popular Operation Game Thief trailer.

The park is located on FM 1600, just south west of Cameron. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Inland Fisheries makes sure the park’s lake is fully stocked with channel catfish for the event.

Registration and fishing will begin at 8 a.m. This is a free event and no fees are charged to participate. A fishing license is not required for those 17 years and under.

The categories are as follows: toddler to 6 years, 7-11 years and 12-17 years. Children will receive a free T-shirt and bait while supplies last. Tackle will be provided to children unable to supply their own.

Fishing will conclude at noon. For more information on the event, please contact Bobbie Mayer at 361-205-0760 or at ccbmayer@aol.com.
