Services for Howard L. Key, 80, of Rockdale were held Friday, May 10, 2013, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with burial following in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pastor Ed Truelson officiated.
Mr. Key died Wednesday, May 8.
He was born Dec. 8, 1932, in the Rockdale area to Walter Hicks and Bertha (Doss) Key.
Mr. Key was a 1952 graduate of Rockdale High School and a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church.
He served two years active service in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
Immediately after his discharge, he went to work for Industrial Generating Co., Sandow Station.
Two years later, he married June Kirchenwitz.
Mr. Key was a certified welder and heavy equipment mechanic and retired in 1989, after 34 years of service.
Not satisfied with retirement, he sought employment at Rockdale Housing Authority, where he was a maintenance supervisor, achieving another 23-year career prior to his death.
Mr. Key was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles T. Key, on July 10, 2012; a brother, Hubert Key; a sister, Gladys Doss and a son-in-law, John San Migel.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, June Key of Rockdale; a daughter, Bridgetta Paris and husband Ronnie of Rockdale; a son, Michael Key and wife Gracie of San Antonio; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Key of Rockdale; two grandsons, Brandon San Migel and wife Mandy of Rockdale, Ethan Key and his mother, Jennifer of Castro Valley, California; a granddaughter, Brittany Paris of Cameron; two great-grandsons, Cruz San Migel and Owen Selgelid; two great-granddaughters, Kyndal Selgelid and Kathryn San Migel; a brother- in- law, Rufus C. Doss; and a sister-inlaw, Joyce (Key) Richards; also, seven step- grandchildren, 12 step- great- grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Key, Tommy Key, Jimmie Key, Bobby Lynch, Kennard Lee Morton and Mike Hoyt.
