BASIC MAYHEM

Happy 50th Birthday to our Library!
Kathy Cooke

I was talking to the Queen Bee of the Rockdale Tiger Sports World a few days ago. That would be our own Denise Betchan, of course.

According to Denise, the sports posters of each varsity athlete are available for purchase in the Rockdale Athletic Office for $15, payable to the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club.

The posters will be at the office until June 21, when they will be taken to be recycled.

So if you are wanting one of those cool posters, you need to get them before June 21.

They will be kinda crispy after that.

And our Library is turning 50, can you believe that!

Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library is celebrating its 50th Birthday with a reception on Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Birthday Party is hosted by Friends of the Library.

There is a great photo of the front of the library 50 years ago when it was first built and wow! Does that bring back memories.

I remember that front porch was huge and the mural painted on the wall was awesome!

I wonder if that mural is still there under all the brick that is there now?

Mike Brown says the mural was painted by a Rockdale Coach Eddie Cook, who incidently played a mean game of bridge, according to my Dad.

Another upcoming event is the Place of Hope Pregnancy Resource Centers’ 2nd annual Hope Night at 6 p.m. Saturday, June, 1 at Downtown Cafe, 118 S. Main St. in Thorndale, according to Ginger Green, spokesperson.

“This will be a family style Mexican meal, with a live auction, silent auction and a big prize drawing,” Greene said. “There will also be a live band.”

Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Call 512- 446-2220 for tickets.
