Free Monarch classes set this month in Milano

The Milano community project, “Bring Back the Monarchs” to the Milano Junction Memorial Garden is going strong.

Efforts to share knowledge to the community, the following free courses are being offered. These three courses will be presented at the Milano Community Center, 303 W. Ave E. and are free of charge.

From 10 a.m. to noon Friday, May 24 “Sex in the Garden...Butterfly Garden that is!” will be presented by Flo Oxley. She is a professor in Austin and an expert with many years at LBJ Wildflower Center.

From 1-3 p.m. Oxley will present “Mycology is Better than Yours-Texas Mushrooms.”

Then from 9 a. m. to noon Wednesday, May 29, “Advanced Monarchs” will be presented by Dr. Ridlon “Kip” Kiphart and Cathy Downs. Dr. Kiphart is a Monarch Larval Monitoring trainer and Conservation Specialist and Downs is a NABA leader and Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist.

In this course, just some of the topics to be discussed are the plight of the Monarch butterfly, milkweed ecology and there will be live Monarch specimens.

RSVPs are needed to reserve your seat. These courses are free of charge and are open to the public but you will need to reserve your seat.
