CrimeStoppers, police searching for tire thieves
The Rockdale Police Department and Milam County CrimeStoppers are searching for the thief, or thieves, who took tires and rims earlier this month from a local wrecker service.
Deputy Sheriff John Mendoza said four tires and rims were taken from a 2013 Dodge Avenger at S&S Wrecker Service. Full Story
Gause grocery target of burglary, info sought
The Milam County Sheriff’s Department and Milam County CrimeStoppers are looking for information concerning a May 8 burglary of Coats Grocery Store in Gause.
Deputy John Mendoza said someone entered the business through the front door and took about 30 cartons of cigarettes.

South Milam County fire calls: • 1:02 p.m. Saturday, small grass fire in ditch, Texas 36 at US 79, Milano VFD. • 4:22 p.m. Monday. Rockdale VFD responded to series of small grass fires at FM 487-FM 1600, FM 908 near Apache Pass, FM 908 past Elm Creek and CR 429. Full Story

Scholarships, awards total $173,095 at RHS
Valedictorian Caroline Wilde and salutatorian Breanne Breithaupt led the parade to the stage Thursday when Rockdale High School hosted its annual Awards Night program.
In all, graduating seniors netted $173,095. Wilde picked up the largest single scholarship, a $34,000 Provost Gold Award to Baylor University. Full Story
THE MURAL LIVES!—
Thursday’s reception commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial library was a mix of history, nostalgia, art and a little detective work. About half the mural painted on the front of the library’s original section—dedicated May 25, 1962—still exists and was a prime showpiece during the reception. Full Story

The Communities in Concert Band provide plenty of patriotic music for Monday’s Memorial Day observance at the Wolf Park pavilion. In addition to patriotic standards the band provided a medley of military service anthems as veterans of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines and Air Force were asked to stand when their anthem was performed. Monday program at Wolf Park honors 236 Milam County war dead
More than 90 years of Milam County’s war dead were honored in a Memorial Day Ceremony.
Relatives and friends answered “here” in memory as 236 names were read at Wolf Park in the annual observance sponsored by Rockdale’s Carlyle American Legion Post 358 on Monday.
They ranged from World War I to the Global War on Terror. Full Story
