FAWN-TASTIC!


Reporter/Mike Brown Reporter/Mike Brown It didn’t rank very high on the “seriousness” scale for police calls during the past week but it hit 10 on the “awwww factor” scale. Buford and Betty Mitchel looked in their front yard, 702 Ortega, Thursday to find an hours-old fawn huddled under a picket fence. The Mitchels called Fred Lankford (R), Rockdale animal control officer. Lankford contacted Game Warden Charles Mayer who advised “leave it alone and the doe will come back for it.” And that’s what happened. “After everyone cleared out, a bit later in the morning, the doe came out of the woods, came over and the fawn stood up and walked off with her,” Betty Mitchel said.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
