Rockdale police investigate two burglary cases during the week

Conterfeit money investigation continues

Rockdale police are investing two separate burglaries that occurred over the weekend.

Lt. J. D. Newl in said the department is investigating an incident where a large screen television and two DVD players were stolen from a home.

He also listed a vehicle break in where a laptop was stolen.

Newlin said there is also an investigation into the theft of an engine and engine stand from the yard of a residence.

FUNNY MONEY—He also said that the investigation into several counterfeit bills being passed in the area continues.

Newlin said a total of two 100-dollar bills, three 20s and two 10s were passed. They were reported at two businesses in Rockdale and one business in Milano.

A similar round of inkjet-generated counterfeit bills was passed in Rockdale in July, 2012, almost exactly one year ago.

Anyone who comes across a counterfeit bill, of any degree of sophistication, is asked to contact the Rockdale Police Department at 512-446-3436.

ACCIDENTS—Two traffic accidents were reported during the past week.

A hit and run ac c ident occur red on June 4 in the Walmart parking lot. A 1996 Mitsubishi car driven by Cody Lopez, 18, of Rockdale, was hit by a white pick up at 9:16 p.m. Police continue to investigate.

Officers responded to 1301 West Cameron for a gas line that was hit by a truck trailer at 8:59 a.m. on June 5. Members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department also responded and cut off the gas meter. Atmos Energy was also notified.

The owner of the truck and trailer was listed as Thomas Kesner, of Rockdale.

INCIDENTS—Police investigated two accounts of public intoxication and one each of criminal mischief and criminal trespass during the week.

CITATIONS—Traffic tickets issued during the week included 23 for speeding, eight for expired MVI sticker, three each for no liability insurance and driving while license invalid.

One citation each was issued for expired driver’s license, no driver’s license and unrestrained child not in safety seat.

SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 146 calls for service and 110 calls were received through the 911 system at the Rockdale Police Department.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
