Sorensen Sorensen RHS cheerleaders to hold car wash June 22

The Rockdale High School Cheerleaders will host a car wash on Saturday, June 22 at Gatti’s Pizza in Rockdale to help raise money for new uniforms, according to spokesperson Tina Barcak.

The car wash will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stutts graduates cum laude from Rice

HOUSTON— Stephanie Stutts, of Caldwell, received her degree from Rice University during commencement exercises on May 11.

Stutts, who graduated with cum laude honors, earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology.

The Class of 2013 is the 100th graduating class in Rice’s history.

Locals earn degrees from Baylor University

WACO— Several area residents earned degrees from Baylor University during spring commencement ceremonies.

Locals receiving degrees were:

• Krista Diane Stephens, of Rockdale, bachelor of arts in History.

• Joshua Tyler Moore, of Cameron, bachelor of business administration in Information Systems.

• Jenner Graham Jones, of Lexington, bachelor of science in Education/ General Studies.

• Audrey Beth Johnson, of Caldwell, master of arts in Spanish.

Talley, Washington earn Midwestern St. degrees

WICHITA FALLS—Two area residents were awarded degrees during May commencement ceremonies at Midwestern State University.

Lacy Jo Talley, of Buckholts, earned a bachelor of science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She also graduated magna cum laude, maintaining a grade point average of 3.7-3.89.

Casterdary Washington Jr., of Milano, received an associate of applied science degree in Radiography.

Sorensen selected for Miss Pre-Teen Pageant

Hailey Alexis Sorensen, 10, has been selected as a State Finalist in the Miss Texas Pre-Teen Pageant to be held June 15-16 in Houston.

Her future plans are to join the U.S. Army, then later on become a police of ficer working with K-9 units.

Sorensen is a fifth grader at Bonham Elementary School in Bryan.

She is the daughter of Lance and Kimberly Jones Hopper and Michael and Erica Sorensen, all of Bryan and the granddaughter of George and Linda Jones of Rockdale and the niece of Joe and Brenda McCullough and James and Amanda Jones, all of Rockdale.

Area residents on Dean’s List at Baylor

WACO—Three area residents were named to the Dean’s Academic Honor List at Baylor University for the Spring 2013 semester.

They were: Teresa Anilu Sanchez, of Cameron; Kurt Austin Terry, of Cameron; Lindsey Lee Hicks, of Caldwell.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Holcombe scholarship applications available

Applications are now being accepted for the Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of college and must be a former Milam County resident or have graduated from a Milam County high school. Applications are due by June 30.

Out-of-school TAKS Exit Level Retest set for July

Rockdale High School will offer the TAKS Exit Level Exams in July 2013 for Out-of-School (OOS) examinees. Tests dates are July 8 (ELA), July 9 (Math), July 10 (Science) and July 11 (Social Studies).

Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary sections(s). All out-of-school TAKS examinees must complete an online registration process. Out-of-school examinees may register online at http:// www.TexasAssessment.com/ TAKSoos.

Registration is open now and will end at 5 p.m. on June 7. Examinees may also register the day of the test.

All out- of- school TAKS examinees should notify the high school counselors (512-430-6140) of their intent to test.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive by 8 a.m. and report to the high school office. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, school ID, DPS ID, etc. to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID.

Thorndale cheerleaders offering mini camp

THORNDALE—The Thorndale cheerleaders will hold a Little Bulldog Cheer Camp on July 29-31 at the Thorndale Middle School gym.

Spokesperson Heather Lamia said that the camp’s proceeds are to raise money for Varsity Camp and cheer supplies.
