Straznicky to succeed Sims at St. John’s UMC


Rev. Rita Sims Rev. Rita Sims Rev. Rita Sims, pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale for the past two years, will become pastor of First United Methodist Church in Kosse and will conduct her f inal service here at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, June 23.

The congregation will honor her during a covered dish luncheon following the service. Rev. Sims is currently president of the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance.

The new pastor at St. John’s will be Rev. Adam Straznicky, a native of East Bernard, a primarily Czech agricultural community in East Texas.

He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Texas A&M University in 2007. While at A&M he met his wife, Sara, a native of El Campo. She is a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M.

Adam attended Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, worked on the youth staff at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, and received a Master of Divinity degree from Brite in 2011.

During this same period, Sara was a third-grade teacher, received a Master in Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, and was principal-certified.

Rev. and Mrs. Straznicky are expecting their first child, Avery Rose Straznicky, this month.

Rev. Straznicky will conduct his first service at St. John’s on Sunday, July 7.

“We are excited to be coming to St. John’s,” he said, “and looking forward to meeting everyone in the church and throughout the community.”
