Don Christian “Chris” Johanson, 56, of Pipe Creek, Texas passed away June 15, 2013. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Pastor David Mitchell and Mark Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Full Story
King assumes mayor’s throne
Councilwoman Dalley elected mayor pro-tem
After a delay of nearly half an hour in order for a quorum to be present, new mayor John King, along with re- elected council woman Joyce Dalley and newly elected councilman Nathan Bland, were sworn into office.
City secretary Terry Blanchard administred the oath of office and presentations were made to outgoing mayor Dr. Larry Don Jones and councilwoman Toby Johnson. Full Story
Bridges named lone finalist
Grand Prairie administrator to be first female RISD supt.
Rockdale ISD trustees went outside of the area and out of the box on Tuesday, naming Vicki Bridges the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent post during a special called meeting.
Bridges, 47, is currently the chief secondary education officer at Grand Prairie ISD in the Metroplex. Grand Prairie is a Class 5A district. Full Story

Rockdale’s Glynn Rolan is very much alive, and he’d term himself a painter instead of an artist, but he’s very much been discovered again after his biggest work was literally uncovered 50 years after it was painted. Full Story
Council still can’t decide on Cameo
Meeting ends for lack of quorum after no action
The decision about what will happen to the Cameo Building in downtown Rockdale is still up in the air.
An appeal by owner Gloria Thrasher to the Rockdale City Council at Monday’s regular meeting went unanswered. After a 20 minute public meeting on the matter, council members failed to take any action on the building. Full Story
Homecoming welcomes back 150
Class of 1963 was this year’s honor class
There was a good crowd at Saturday’s annual Rockdale Homecoming Association event held at the Patterson Civic Center with 150 visitors reminiscing about the “good old days.”

Library offers ‘Conversations with Cliff’ here Thursday
Rockdale’s city library will offer “Conversations With Cliff” at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, June 13, and again Thursday, June 20 and listeners and participants are in for a treat.
Cliff Simms, a lifelong resident and a “walking encyclopedia” of knowledge about all things Rockdale, will be the speaker in an informal setting. Full Story
