Petition for new water board members

Dear editor,

I read with interest Curtis Chubs’ article in The Cameron Herald last week, “It is time to draw a line in the sand.” I fully concur with his sentiments and hope the present Post Oak board will curtail water permits to out of county interests.

How do we draw this line in the sand over the long term? Everyone should petition their County Commissioner and the County Judge to appoint new board members. Present Milam board members have been in place since the inception of the District.

We are asking for two things. Appoint new board members with personal water at risk, and initiate term limits for board members.

Board members with personal water at risk will be more concerned about conservation.

Rural wells, Rockdale city wells and rural water systems wells are at risk. No one is sure of the aquifer recharge ability and we must err on the side of caution.

New ideas, questions and energy are a good thing. New board members with water at risk will also be a good thing.
