Board okays clinic on RISD campus with August start eyed
Rockdale ISD trustees have okayed a “ hopefully tentative” budget for 2013-2014 that’s based on a 4-cent tax increase.
Board members, meeting in regular session Monday in the Central Administration Building, also approved a request by Little River Healthcare to place a clinic in an RISD campus as soon as August. Full Story

Thorndale grills up more winners
Top finishers listed from VFD cookoff
The best barbecue cooks are close to home.
That was the opinion of judges in the 23rd annual Thorndale VFD Barbecue Cookoff, held Saturday at the city park.
Overall winner was Pit Divided, led by pitmaster Kory Scruggs of Thrall, which is five miles from Thorndale.
And all the runners-up were Thorndale teams.

MEADOWBROOK VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL—
Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1401 Colorado in Rockdale, held its annual Vacation Bible School last week. Pastor Russ Willis said the theme for this year’s VBS was “God Rocks! Starlight Rescue,” based on Philippians 2:15. In attendance for the week were 48 children with 32 adults and youth helpers. Full Story

Keen resigns as Lady Tiger softball coach
Rockdale athletic director Jeff Miller has dipped into the Elgin coaching pool once again and hired Ronnie Jonse as the Tigers’ new baseball coach.
Miller had already hired his new defensive coordinator Mike Dunn who was also from Elgin.
Jonse replaces Clay Cox who left after two years to become an assistant coach at West Alabama. Full Story

Milam County’s jobless rate up slightly
Declining trend halted after four month slow down
AUSTIN—After a slight declining trend over the past four months, Milam County’s unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a percentage points in May, according to numbers released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on Friday.
The county’s May rate was at 6.9 percent, compared to 6.7 in April. Jobless numbers in Milam County were 7.4 in March and 8.0 in February. Full Story
