Thorndale grills up more winners

Top finishers listed from VFD cookoff

The best barbecue cooks are close to home.

That was the opinion of judges in the 23rd annual Thorndale VFD Barbecue Cookoff, held Saturday at the city park.

Overall winner was Pit Divided, led by pitmaster Kory Scruggs of Thrall, which is five miles from Thorndale.

And all the runners-up were Thorndale teams.

There were 75 cooking teams.

The early summer event also featured a three-day softball tourney, two dances, horseshoe, domino and washer tourneys and much more.

Tammy Pickett, spokesperson, expressed appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the many events.
