With no professional fireworks shows scheduled for the Rockdale area this Fourth of July, Apache Pass will again be open for persons with their own fireworks, and food, to celebrate Independence Day. Full Story
Voting photo IDs required after Supreme Court rules
Texans who don’t already have a photo ID—such as a driver’s license—will be required to produce one after Tuesday’s ruling by the U. S. Supreme Court.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that as of Wednesday it is now issuing Election Identification Certificates (EIC) to those Texans who need one. Full Story

Slick spot triggers wrecks
An oil slick spot on FM 486 north of Thorndale was blamed for a pair of one-vehicle crashes during the past week, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Trooper Erik Gaston said a vehicle operated by 80-year-old Donnie Shumaker of Thorndale slid off the road at the slick spot at 10:36 p.m. June 18. Full Story
Only one fire call in South Milam County was dispatched from the Rockdale Police Department during the past week and it turned out to be a false alarm.
That came at 11:42 a.m. June 18, and sent the Thorndale VFD to a location on County Road 356.

Milam supports feral hog control program
CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners, meeting Monday in regular session at the courthouse, okayed supporting a neighboring county’s quest to control feral hogs.
Commissioners gave County Judge Dave Barkemeyer the go-ahead to sign a letter supporting Bell County’s request to apply for state County Hog Abatement Matching Program Funds. Full Story
Tourism board endorses funding for ‘Hero Rush’
Rockdale’s Tourism Committee on Tuesday voted to recommend the city award $7,500 toward a 2014 event that draws emergency responders and raises money for charity.
Project Hero Rush is eying a Rockdale event next March and has applied for funds administered by the city through the hotel-motel tax. Full Story

Rockdale High School graduates from the 1950s through the 1990s gathered in one place Saturday, the Apache Pass Ice House. A much-anticipated Big Blue Band reunion was timed to coincide with class reunions from 1983, 1988 and 1993. CAMERON—Six persons drew terms last week in 20th District Court, Prosecutor Bill Torrey, listed them as follows:
• Rocky Flores, 34, Cameron, pleaded “true” to probation violations on an original conviction of engaging in organized criminal activity, four-year prison term. Full Story
