Shafer

Funeral Services for Virginia L. Galloway Shafer, 77, of Rockdale were held Friday, June 21, 2013, in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Gene Van- Noord officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery near Cameron.

Mrs. Shafer died at her home on June 18 surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Holland to Walter and Lillie Belle (Dabbs) Galloway.

Mrs. Shafer was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey E. Shafer; two sons-in-law, Wayne Mills and David Guthrie; a great-grandchild and all of her siblings.

Survivors are four daughters, Janice Mills of Milano, Sally Porter and husband James of Austin, Becky Taylor and husband Larry of Temple, Virginia Halpain of Rockdale; and three sons, Harvey L. Shafer and wife Sandra of Liberty Community, Richard Shafer of Rockdale, Ronnie Shafer of Cameron; also, 19 grandchildren and 46½ great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Shafer, Larry Taylor, James Porter, Wesley Shafer, Harvey Shafer, Glenn Mayfield, Randy Mayfield and David Nelson Guthrie.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
