Area players named to All-Brazos Valley team

Brinkley, LaGrone make 2nd straight appearance on the squad

A trio of area athletes continued to rack up diamond honors this summer.

Ethan Brinkley, Aust in Caffey and Hayleigh LaGrone were named to the 17th annual Bryan- College Station Eagle All-Brazos Valley softball team.

Brinkley, a first-team All- State selection, was named to the Brazos Valley first team as well, while Caffey and LaGrone were picked second team.

Brinkley turned in one of the top seasons in RHS history in 2013, batting .493 with 38 RBIs.

Brinkley collected 73 runs batted in during his career.

As a hurler, the southpaw was 8-5 with a 2.39 earned run average.

Brinkley recently played in the THSBCA All-Star game.

Caffey, who will be a senior next season, batted .402 last season with 21 runs batted in, 22 stolen bases and a team-high 34 runs scored, 18 walks and 210 total bases from his lead off slot.

Whi le Ca f fe y prov ided impressive offensive numbers, it was his work as a backstop on defense that deserves equal credit.

Caffey has logged over 550 consecutive innings behind the plate and he did not commit an error this past season, while throwing out 19 runners.

LaGrone—a graduated senior— is making her second straight appearance on the team.

The outfielder led the Lady Eagles to the playoffs, hitting .435, scoring 21 runs and swiping 17 bases.

Brinkley, Caffey and LaGrone and Stoney Guthrie were also named to the all-academic team.

RGSL drawing winners

Winners for the annual Rockdale Girls Softball League drawing were announced at the league’s closing ceremonies on June 17.

Those were: Mariana Santellano, $500 Visa gift certificate; Sara Lara, $250 MasterCard gift certificate; Brian Bohl, $100 Visa gift card; Becky Gifford, gift basket; Andrew Ibarra, gift basket; Jana Mayfield, gift basket.

Those players selling the most raffle tickets were Faith Dafler, Allison Page and Alyssa Saldana. Each received a $25 Walmart gift card.
