Miller had already hired his new defensive coordinator Mike Dunn who was also from Elgin.

Jonse replaces Clay Cox who left after two years to become an assistant coach at West Alabama.

Jonse, 27 and a Sam Houston graduate, is an Elgin native where he has been coaching for the past five years.

This is Jonse first head coaching job.

Jonse remembers playing against the Tigers when Elgin and Rockdale were in the same district from 2000-2003 and split four games.

“ Everytimeyouplayed Rockdale, you knew you were in for a fight,” Jonse said. “Rockdale was always scrappy and was always going to compete and push themselves to the limit.”

Jonse will probably coach the defensive tackles in football and is a social studies teacher.

“We had several good applicants,” Miller said. “ When it came to matching up what we needed in the classroom and in baseball, Jonse was a great fit. He’s a great addition to the classroom.

“He is extremely knowledgeable of baseball and dedicated to hard work. We’ve had some good things happen in Rockdale baseball and we want to keep that going and take it to the next level.”

Also, Amanda Keen has resigned as Lady Tiger softball coach to return home to Abilene.

Keen had a successful threeyear run in Rockdale, leading the Lady Tigers to their first district championship in six years this past season.

Their 21-7 record was the best since a 23-2 ledger in 2006.

Keen was 49-26 in her three years here and was named the District 18-3A coach of the year.

Mullins resigned as head coach at Harker Heights after going 14-27 in three seasons, including a 4-7 mark this past season. Navasota head coach Lee Fedora played under Mullins at A&M Consolidated... Basketball head coaching positions at Thorndale and Milano should be filled in the upcoming days.
