Vicki Bridges of the Grand Prairie ISD won’t be Rockdale’s new superintendent.
Lee Jenkins, RISD board of trustees president—speaking at the end of a called session at noon Monday that was to have formalized Bridges’ selection—said the lone finalist called him Sunday afternoon and declined the job. Full Story

Body found in search for missing area man
Autopsy shows no signs of foul play
The Milam County Sheriff’s Department has called off a search for a missing Milano-area man af ter finding a body Saturday.
The init ial search for Larry Wayne Bennett, 55, began last week after fami ly members reported they hadn’t seen Bennett since June 9.
Searchers found his vehicle alongside Milam County Road 264 near Sugarloaf Mountain. Full Story

Volunteers transform center’s walls, corners
When Rockdale’s Love and Learning Center, an early education and childcare center wanted to brighten up it facilities at the corner of Hillcrest and Josie, it got some help in a big way.
The Rockdale High School Art Club this spring and summer donated about 50 hours of their time to paint different themes on the center’s walls. Full Story
First Baptist youth group hosting pancake supper Friday
Milano First Baptist Church youth group will hold a pancake supper at the church fellowship hall on Friday, July 5. Serving will begin at 6 p.m. and cost per plate is by donation. Money raised will be used to pay for upcoming church camp. Full Story

Thorndale, Milano hire familiar hoop faces
Loewe joins Milano as an assistant
Both Milano and Thorndale have tapped into their past to secure their future.
Thorndale hired alumnus John Kovar to become its new basketball coach, while Milano followed suit, tapping alum Jacob Dent as its new hoops coach.
And in a surprise move, former Rockdale basketball coach Dusty Loewe will become Dent’s assistant. Full Story

When Willie Nelson tired of a Nashville music scene that forced him to wear a suit and tie and cut his hair short, he subsequently moved to Austin back in 1972.

Czajkowski’s latest press puts him at the top
I f anything, Jamie Czajkowski likes to repeat himself. He just keeps on breaking records wherever he goes.
Most recently, he set another standard at the USA National Powerlifting Championships June 22 in Killeen, where he finished second and qualified for the USA world team. Full Story

Building permits in city up for the month
City building permits issued for the month of June totaled just $47,747, according to Rockdale city hall officials.
Permits are up for the month, compared to $ 27,500 in the month of May. Permits totaled $57,350 for April.
Permit totals for the fiscal year, which started in October, now sit at $1,794,145. Full Story
