Farm Bureau Citizenship Day set July 10 at A&M

The fourth annual Farm Bureau Citizenship Day is set Wednesday, July 10. This year we are going to the Bryan- College Station area where we will spend time at the George Bush Presidential Library, tour the Texas A& M Fire School and drive through Disaster City.

Milam County Farm Bureau will treat us to lunch and we are working on another stop in the area to complete our day. The bus will pick up at the Thorndale ISD parking lot at 8 a.m. and another pick up will be at the Milano Livestock Exchange parking lot at 9 a.m. The bus will return back to Milano around 4:30 p.m. and Thorndale 5 p.m.

The tour is open to the youth of Milam County (4-H and FFA members, plus other community and school groups) parents are welcome to accompany youth. Call the Texas A& M AgriLife Extension-Milam County office at 254- 697- 7045 or Durwood Tucker at 512- 898- 2727 to reserve your spot on the bus. Space is limited.

Cost is $5 per person. Please call by July 8, so meal plans can be made. Thank you to Durwood Tucker with Milam County Farm Bureau for coordinating and sponsoring this unique and enjoyable leadership opportunity for the youth of Milam County.

FOOD, CONSUMER TOUR—A food and consumer tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 9 in Georgetown. Cost is $7 per person. The tour will start at The Monument Cafe and Farmers Market in Georgetown at 10 a.m. We will meet in the Farmers Market area. The program will be a talk about The Monument Cafe, its farmers market and gardens, a program on Kosher Foods by a special speaker, plus information on the food and nutrition project opportunities. We will have lunch at the cafe. They will be doing a buffet for us and the cost per 4-Her and parent will be $7.

Af ter lunch we wi ll go to several stores and do consumer comparison of products. We are planning to have speakers from the stores talk with us about product comparisons. This will be fun even if you don’t participate in the consumer contests. Call the office or come by to sign up. You can also email me. You can pay your $7 registration at the start of the tour, but I do need a count by noon July 8.

ROCKDALE FAIR—Rockdale Fair tag- ins for lambs, swine and goats will be held from 7-9 a.m. Saturday, July 13 at Fair Park.

Entry forms must be completed at time of tag-in. Exhibitor and a parent or guardian must sign the forms to make them valid.
