Water workshop set for July 24 at Apache Pass

The summer time is a great time to learn more about water and the environment. At the Water Workshop on July 24, a group of teen and adult leaders will help you learn about water, environment and related topics.

The workshop will start at 10 a.m. and end about 2 p.m. at Apache Pass on FM 908 North between Rockdale and Thorndale. Lunch will be provided, so please call the Extension Office, 254-697-7045 and sign-up by July 22.

Participants may have the opportunity to get a little wet during some of the activities, so dress casual and in something that you can get a little wet. You will be busy with a variety of games and activities to learn the importance of water.

COUNTY RECOGNITION— Milam County 4-Hers have two more chances to be recognized at the Celebration Event in October. You can submit a recordbook for county recognition and/or submit a county recognition form by Sept. 13. Forms for the recordbook and recognition forms are available on the county website, http://milam.agrilife.org/ or at the Milam County Extension Office, 100 E. 1st Street in Cameron. Contact the Extension Office if you have questions.

The county recognition forms can be completed each year the guidelines are met, so you can receive the award several years. Here is a listing of the forms available to 4-Hers:

• 4-H Clover Award—Beginner ages (5-8 years old and not in the 3rd grade).

• 4-H Honor Award—Junior (ages 8 to in the 3rd grade 10).

• 4-H All Star Award—Intermediate (ages 11-13).

• 4-H Letterman Award— Seniors (ages 14-18).

LIVESTOCK PROJECT NEWS—Rockdale Fair tag in date is July 13 for lambs, swine and goats. The tag in will be 7-9 a.m. at Rockdale Fair Park.

Turkey orders for the Milam County Junior Livestock Show and 2013 Major Shows are due July 12.

If you plan on showing turkeys at major shows or the MCJLS, you must place your order at the Milam County Extension Office by July 12. The cost of birds is $3.50 per bird.
