Brown Santa golf tourney ahead Saturday
The third annual Brown Santa Golf Tourney, sponsored by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, is set for Saturday, at the Cameron Country Club.
The tourney is a major source of funding for the sheriff’s department Brown Santa program which provides Christmas gifts to low-income families throughout the county each December.
Deadline to sign up is Monday, according to Deputy Sheriff John Mendoza.
“Cost is $50 per person and includes green fees, a goody bag and snacks,” he said.
Golfers can RSVP to Mendoza at 254-627- 1270 or to Wynema Adams at the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, 254-697-7033.
“You can also sign up at the Cameron and Rockdale Country Clubs,” he said.
Mendoza said the tourney is also accepting hole sponsorships at $100 per hole.
Format will be a five-man scramble. “But you don’t have to put a team together to play,” he said. “Just sign up, come on out to the country club and we will put you on a team.”
FUND RAISER—The tourney will also feature one of the most unique fund raising events.
Donations may be made for a shot at winning a TaylorMade driver.
“You’ll get a golf ball to write your name on,” Mendoza said. “We’ll put the golf balls in a helicopter, fly over one of the holes and dump them out.”
“The person whose name is on the ball that lands closest to the pin will win the Taylor- Made driver,” he said.
SHOTGUN START—Mendoza said there will be two shotgun starts on Saturday, at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“We encourage everyone to come out and support this great cause for the children of Milam County,” he said.
