Third annual shoe drive set for needy children
Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Rockdale Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the annual shoe drive for needy school children, according to Denice Doss, publicist.
Signup will continue through July with distribution to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
To sign up to receive shoes call Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 512-446-3367, or Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, 512-446-2030.
To donate for the drive call either of the two numbers above. Make checks payable to Meadowbrook Baptist Church as 100 percent of the donations will be used to purchase the shoes.
This is the third year for the giveaway. Last year more than 100 children were provided with shoes, Doss said.
Genealogy seminar planned for August 3
Milam County Genealogical Society will sponsor a genealogy seminar conducted by professional genealogist Lynna Kay Shuffield on Saturday, Aug. 3, for a $5 donation per person.
Pre-registration is required in order to estimate luncheon supplies. However, donations may be paid at the door the morning of the seminar.
Registration will begin at 8:30, and the seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with breaks for lunch and relaxation. Subjects covered will be: “20th Century Military & War Dead Research”, “Scrapbooking Your Family History,” and “Texas War of Independence Research.”

Next society meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the meeting room of Rockdale General Store, 1201 W. Hwy. 77.

Sunshine quilters to meet here July 25
Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a. m. Thursday, July 25 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Members will continue a project of making medicine bags for the Temple VA Hospital, according to Eddie Davidson, club reporter. Visitors are welcome.
