Methodists, Lutherans to hold VBS Aug. 5-7

St. John’s United Methodist Church and Peace Lutheran Church will co-host Vacation Bible School again this year, with the theme: “Everywhere Fun Fair—Where God’s World Comes Together.”

VBS will be held at St. John’s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 5-7, from 5:30 until 8 p.m. and is open to children age 3 years through 5th grade. All children in the area are invited. A snack supper will be served each evening.

Rising Star and Place of Hope to hold events

Rising Star Baptist Church will host a special presentation by Place of Hope on Wednesday, July 31 at 6 p.m., according to Jo Ann Bradford, church publicist.

“Place of Hope is a non-profit, non-denominational Pregnancy Resource Center, located at 231 E. Cameron Avenue in Rockdale.” Bradford said. “The Place of Hope mission is to demonstrate and share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ by providing practical help and loving support to those facing an unplanned pregnancy.”

All adults in community are encouraged to attend, Bradford said.

On Saturday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. there will be a Place of Hope presentation for teen girls and their parents. All teen girls and parents of the community are invited. This program will be held at RSBC fellowship hall.

‘Carrying the Cross’ event set here Aug. 11

“Carrying the Cross—Join in Unison for Christ” will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning in downtown Rockdale at the former Rockdale Ford location (across Cameron Avenue from The Rockdale Reporter).

The event will assemble at that location at 2 p.m. and walk to Fair Park, according to John Krause, publicist. There will be water provided along the walk.

The walk will be followed by praise and worship at Fair Park, Krause said.

Next men’s breakfast at St. John’s UMC

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at St. John’s United Methodist Church. “Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

Church bake sale Friday, Saturday in Thorndale

THORNDALE—First Shiloh Baptist Church will hold a bake sale benefitting youth camp on Friday and Saturday, July 19-20, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The sale will be held on Main Street next to Country Rose Antiques in Thorndale. FMI: Grace Couch, 512- 229-8927.

Thrift store volunteers announced for month

Rockdale Christian Services Heavenly Treasures thrift store serving the needy at 233 North Main Street is staffed by volunteers from RCS member churches. Church volunteer assignments through July are as follows:
