Reckless driving call ends with weapons, drug, vehicle charges
A “reckless driving” call for police ended Sunday with several charges being filed against a 20-year-old Milano man.
Jeffrey Allen McKinney Jr. was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of marijuana and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bond on the drug and weapons charges was set at $5,000 and he remains in the county jail. Full Story

‘Natural causes’ eyed in Milano teacher death
Milano teacher Bridget Barf ield was found dead at her home on County Road 330 just south of Milano on Monday morning, and officials are saying the death was due to “natural causes.”
Milam County Deputy Chris White said that the 60-year-old was found unresponsive at her residence and a call was made to the sheriff’s office at approximately 7:45 a.m. Monday. Full Story

City, MDD rebate checks down for the month
Milam County allocations hit $1 million mark for 2013
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in June was $2.17 billion, up 9.1 percent compared to June 2012.
Combs sent out $578.3 million in July local sales tax allocations last week to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. That is up 8.1 percent compared to the same time in 2012. Full Story
