City, MDD rebate checks down for the month
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in June was $2.17 billion, up 9.1 percent compared to June 2012.
Combs sent out $578.3 million in July local sales tax allocations last week to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. That is up 8.1 percent compared to the same time in 2012.
The tax rebate checks for the City of Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) were down for July and the year.
Rockdale’s check this month was $57,677.38 compared to $58,383.26 for July 2012, down 1.2 percent. Totals are just barely below what they were for the year at .59 percent less, with $412,116.78 received so far this year, compared to $414,603.41 at this point in 2012.
The MDD received $27,005.67 for the month, down 4.34 percent from last July’s $28,231.02 Totals are also down .78 percent for the year. The district has received $190,4702.64 thus far in 2013, compared to $192,206.09 compared to this time last year.
COUNTY—Milam County’s check was $156,468.92, up 15.09 percent from $135,949.86 a year ago. Totals for this year have Milam County over the $1 million mark at $1,060,100.93, up 44.00 percent from this point in 2012. Last year’s total in June was 736,175.39.
Sales tax figures represent monthly sales made in May.
STATEWIDE—“Growth in sales tax receipts was led by business sectors such as manufacturing and construction,” Combs said. “Remittances from the oil and natural gas industry remain strong, which sales tax revenue was also notable for restaurants—a consumer sector.”
Texas cities received $377.4 million in tax allocations, up 7.7 percent compared to July 2012.
Allocations to counties are also running 8.3 percent ahead of this point in 2012, with $38.6 million going out to them in July.
Combs also sent $29.9 million in allocations to special purpose taxing districts, up 10.2 percent of July 2012. Transit systems received $132.4 million in tax rebates to transit systems, up 8.9 percent from the same last year.
