Milano Opry to take stage Saturday

MILANO—The Milano Opry will be Saturday, July 20 at Milano High School. Door will open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7, according to Lynn Martin, spokesperson.

Concessions will be open serving hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches, fries, snacks, drinks and homemade pies.

Guest performers will be Mike Lawrence, Tex Krenek and Elaine McAllister. House band members are Michael Herod, Billy Barnett, Michael Wall, Ricky Blagg, Gary Beard, Johnny Foster, Lynn Martin and Donny White with his cowboy poetry. “Come enjoy a good time and see ‘a big show in a small town’,” Martin said.

Genealogy seminar planned August 3

Milam County Genealogical Society will sponsor a genealogy seminar conducted by professional genealogist Lynna Kay Shuffield on Saturday, Aug. 3, for a $5 donation per person.

Pre-registration is required to estimate luncheon supplies. However, donations may be paid at the door the morning of the seminar.

Registration will begin at 8:30, and the seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with breaks for lunch and relaxation. Subjects covered will be: “20th Century Military & War Dead Research”, “Scrapbooking Your Family History,” and “Texas War of Independence Research.”

Next society meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the meeting room of Rockdale General Store, 1201 W. US. 77.

Sunshine quilters to meet July 25

Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Members will continue a project of making medicine bags for the Temple VA Hospital, according to Eddie Davidson, club reporter. Visitors are welcome.

Standards Hospice offers grief support

CAMERON—Standards Hospice is holding grief support group meetings from 5 to 6 p.m. each second and fourth Wednesdays. Greg Nichols is bereavement coordinator.
