Teacher salaries on tap for trustees Monday

Approval of the 2013-14 teacher salary schedule, and district compensation plan, is among the agenda items on tap for Rockdale ISD when they meet in regular session at 5:30 p. m. Monday in the Central Administration Building.

Other agenda items include revisions to student handbooks and the “grab and go” breakfast program at Rockdale Elementary School.

RISD board approves personnel moves

Rockdale ISD trustees accepted the following resignations during a called meeting on Friday:

Anna Bayer, elementary-intermediate counselor; Kim Hedtke, fourth-grade; Trey Swor, RHS social studies/coach; John Kovar, RJH inclusion/coach; Amy Laurell, eighth- grade ELA; Kalli Holub, seventh-grade English; Tonya Bohl, Burleson- Milam Special Services Co-Op.

Hired were: Erin Cox, fourth grade; Jamie Austin, RJH math/ coach; Kristofer Campbell, RJH English/coach.

Third annual shoe drive aiding needy children

Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Rockdale Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce are continuing their annual shoe drive for needy school children, according to Denice Doss, publicist.

Signup will continue through July with distribution to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

To donate for the drive call either of the two numbers above. Make checks payable to Meadowbrook Baptist Church as 100 percent of the donations will be used to purchase the shoes.

Milano trustees approve lunch price hikes

MILANO—School board members in Milano voted to raise prices of school lunches in the district’s cafeterias at the entity’s regular meeting held Thursday at the MHS cafeteria.

Prices for the district’s full price lunches increased. Pre-K to fifth grade lunches will be $2.25 now and grades 6-12 will cost $2.50 per student. That is an increase of 20-cents from last school year.

Trustees also heard a report from Lewis Wilks, financial advisor with U.S. Capital Advisors, L.L.C. regarding district bonds and finance market.

The board also hired Amy Laurell as a teacher and gave Supt. Robert Westbrook authority to hire professional staff as needed through Aug. 21.

Trustees are set to meet Aug. 15 for a budget workshop and on Aug. 29 for their regular monthly meeting.

‘Wounded warrior’ fund-raiser ahead Aug. 3

A fund-raising barbecue for the Wounded Warrior project, which assists severely-wounded military personnel, is set for Aug. 3 at Tonkawa Cycles in downtown Rockdale at 115 West Cameron (US 79).

Plates, priced at $5 each, will be sold from “9 a.m. until done.” Plates will also be sold to go.

There will also be “ take a chance” drawings with instant winners.

City looking to annex Milano ISD buildings

MILANO—City council members in Milano will hold its first public hearing to receive public comments on the proposed initiation of annexation proceedings for Milano ISD during their regular meeting set Monday at the Milano Civic Center.

The district’s school buildings are currently not in the city limits.

Council members will also discuss: Marvin Clement becoming CPA for the city, take action on requirements for filming in Milano to sync with all cities in the county, adopt amended substandard and dangerous buildings and structures ordinance and establish a citizen committee for those buildings and structures and hold the third and final readings for sex offender regulations ordinance, sex offender residency restrictions, municipal fees ordinance.

Genealogy workshop ahead at city library

The Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library will host a genealogy workshop with professional genealogist Lynna Kay Shuffield from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

Donations are $5 and lunch will be provided. Deadline to sign up is Friday, July 26.

POSGCD hosting GMA area meeting July 25th

MILANO—The Post Oak Savannah

Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) will host the Groundwater Management Area (GMA) 12 joint planning meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25.

The meeting will be in the Milano Civic Center.

Agenda items include a resolution on the reassignment of the Brazos Valley GCD to Region 12 and discussion on the desired future conditions of the aquifers in GMA-12.

MDD board set to meet Thursday at City Hall

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Agenda items include an MDD event at the Kay Theater, the district’s project list, facade improvement incentive and discussion of a rent assistance program, Kara Clore, interim manager, said.
