BASIC MAYHEM

Wheels for Whitney Bake Sale set Aug. 3
Kathy Cooke

Wheels For Whitney has planned a Bake Sale for Saturday, August 3 in front of Rockdale Walmart, according to Shirley Bailey, Whitney’s grandmother.

Ms. Shirley says they are in need of some expert bakers (or non-expert because she even asked me) to make something wonderful to sell at the Bake Sale.

If you would like to donate some baked goods please contact Shirley Bailey at 512-446- 6596.

Whitney, age 23, was born with Cerebral Palsy and is the daughter of Michael and Andrea Bailey of Rockdale and Thorndale and a 2008 graduate of Thorndale High School.

Bailey graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a degree in Rehabilitative Services but has been unable to work, or even go to a job interview, due to a lack of an accessible vehicle.

Once again, for those wanting to donate online, go to www.giveforward.com then search for Whitney Bailey and her fundraiser page will appear.

Also, an account has been set up at Rockdale Federal Credit Union under the name of “Wheels For Whitney” #32427.

For more information, contact Shirley Bailey at 512-446-6596 or Whitney Bailey at 254-913- 5147.

I know Whitney and her family appreciate all the help and well wishes very much.

We’ve got to get Ms. Whitney some Wheels. She’s got places to go and people to see, ya’ll.

Big plans are underway for the annual Rockdale City- Wide Garage Sale and Antique Fair, according to Joan Ratliff, Rockdale Tourism Committee.

The dates will be Saturday and Sunday this year, September 7 and 8.

Of course, you can have your garage sale at your house or the location of your choice but this year there will also be booths available at various locations throughout town.

Contact Ratliff at 512-446- 2361, ext 0 for more information about booths.

I know there will be booth space available at Wolf Park, Tisket A Tasket and Antique Queens. More locations may be added later. I’ll keep you posted as information is updated.

As in years past, you can list your garage sale or booth in The Rockdale Reporter for $5 and it will appear in three different places in the paper.

You will get a classified word ad, an online ad and your sale will be listed in a big display ad with a map included in the September 5 issue.

That’s a lot of publicity for $5, don’t you think!

I am excited about the new additions this year. It should be a great weekend!
